The Central Pennsylvania Paralegal Association started holding meetings in February 1984 and was formed as a non-profit organization October 1984.  The membership, at that time, consisted of both those who were employed as paralegals and those who were not, at that time, practicing paralegals, as well as students who were enrolled in paralegal study programs in the Central Pennsylvania area.  Since that time, CPPA has grown to include not only those employed as paralegals, as well as those who are not, at this time, practicing paralegals and students, but also paralegal managers and educators.   CPPA’s mission statement, both in 1984 and currently, is to promote, protect, and advance the paralegal profession and its interests, to foster the creative expansion of paralegal roles (at all times operating within the boundaries of the profession), and to educate consumers and employers in the utilization of paralegals. CPPA hosts an annual “Take An Attorney to Lunch” event which got its start on October 10, 1995 when each member of the organization was encouraged to bring an attorney as his or her guest to the monthly Lunch and Learn meeting to increase awareness of the Association’s purposes and goals.  Today, we encourage our membership to share this event with the attorneys in their offices for the purpose of not only increasing the awareness of the Association’s purposes and goals, but to celebrate the paralegal profession and its contributions to the legal community.
